Focusing is hard!

I’ve come to realize when you’re creative and you jump headlong into the business of graphic design and marketing a whole range of possible avenues open up. The “who, what and where” is so overwhelming that my concentration is blurry….. sometimes mentally, sometimes physically (and it doesn’t help that I ran over my glasses with my truck a few weeks ago.) I’m understanding the fact that I can’t do it all, not right now, not while MRM is so small. So i’m beginning to form a strategy to move in a direction that may become a fantastic start on a long path to my future in the marketing business. Creatively speaking it will be a huge challenge, finanically speaking it’ll be a hard balance, and not to mention alot of late night in front of the computer. In the long run it’ll pay off for the company. And in the end I’ll be a much stronger designer, business owner and contributor to my financial future.

Now that it’s all starting to become clear.

Today I attended my first ever Marketing Expo and it was an unnatural thing for me to do…

Hold on, before you start thinking “aw…he didn’t like it…he’s such a lame’o.” let me explain.

I felt it was “unnatural” because I’m used to talking myself out of doing these sort of things… Most of the times I get a “hankerin’” to do something or go somewhere when I first hear about it then when it comes time to go I find some way to talk myself out of it, then forget about it later so there’s no thought of what might have been. Honestly, there’s only been a few times I thought “damn, I should have gone.”

This wasn’t one of those times.

I went and shook hands with my peers and competition, passed out some cards (which people liked!) and made a few connections…..hopefully. The absolute best part about it was the fact that I was representing a company, MY company. And that felt the greatest. Given the fact that just yesterday I was down in the dumps because of the money issue or the lack of money issue. There was a burdening sence that I’ve been thrown into the deep end of the business pool and I’m not treading water so good….Maybe this expo will turn out to be the lifeguard that sees I need some assistance and will pull me into shallow water where I can gain my footing, or atleast find my way to climb out and catch my breath.

For that it’ll be a wait and see situation. But, its funny. sometmes it takes just the slightest change of habit, and doing the “unnatural”, to move your perspective to a different frame of mind….even if its just for today.

For that i’ll have to wait and see…
